More information about Mompox on Colombia Travel

Mompox is still quiet and undisturbed by tourism. The buildings in Spanish colonial architecture are in original state. It has a very hot climate and is still difficult to reach by car and ferry from Cartagena de Indias. However a new bridge over the river Magdalena to connect Mompox to Cartagena is being build so this peace will change.

Mompox on the banks of the Rio Magdalena used to be an important city for the Spanish conquistadores. They stored in the shown warehouse the gold and silver they seized from the indigenous of Colombia. The city was far enough situated from the sea to be safe from pirates and corsairs.
